Kitchen Renovation

Full-Service Design & Project Management

This kitchen renovation transformed a dated, inefficient space into a bright, functional centerpiece for our home, perfect for daily living and entertaining. The original layout, pictured below, felt cramped even with only two people. The soffit above the upper cabinets not only reduced storage space but also lowered the ceiling height. The existing wall and appliance layout restricted flow and usability in the kitchen and adjacent rooms.

Before

By removing two walls and reconfiguring the cabinet layout into a L-shape, we were able to create a larger, welcoming kitchen. This created better connections between the dining room area and allowed for a spacious island that encourages gathering and conversation. Simple wood bar stools provide casual seating and warmth to the neutral palette. As we laid out the millwork and new walls, it was important for us to have plenty of space to walk around as we both enjoy cooking.

After

Every element of the new design was thoughtfully considered. We optimized cabinet layout for both function and accessibility—everyday dishes are easy to reach, while occasional items are neatly tucked away. The island includes deep drawers for pots and pans close to the stove, a dedicated baking sheet drawer near the oven, a glassware cabinet and section for seasonal and specialty serveware. With efficient storage built into the lower cabinetry, we reduced the amount of upper cabinets, maintaining a clean, open feel.

For finishes, we chose classic white cabinetry paired with bold black hardware and contrasted it with a dark gray island for a timeless, high-impact look. The quartz countertops add movement and character with rich veining, while upgraded Frigidaire appliances complete the modern update. This renovation also included a new pantry and closet for additional closed storage. In addition to all the design selections, we provided the Contractor demolition plans, construction plans, elevations, ceiling plans with lighting and switch locations, and electrical plans placing new outlets. As the project manager, we maintained the schedule, project budget and coordinated with the Contractor and their Subcontractors throughout the construction process.
